Confronting COVID-19

Clinical Associates and COPC in the mining communities in South Africa

During the 2020 COVID19 pandemic, an opportunity surfaced for ClinAs to expand their expertise in community-oriented primary care (COPC) to enhance access to quality health care for the Anglo America mining communities. The University of Pretoria’s COPC Research Unit collaborated with the provincial department of health, Anglo America, Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), and World Vision to implement COPC at household level, where ClinAs are key team members who work in collaboration with various stakeholders to trace, treat, refer, and identify patients/families affected with COVID19.
